Zadar

One of the oldest Croatian cities and an administrative and economic center of north Dalmatia is Zadar, a town with long and interesting history and culture. The old town centre is situated on a peninsula around which newer, modern parts of town have developed. It had been founded by the old Romans as a colony for their retired soldiers, but the area had been populated much earlier. During following centuries Zadar grew into a beautiful town, the center of this part of Dalmatia region, with numerous churches and monuments that stand as a witness of its interesting and impressive development. Stone streets, churches and old buildings are full of Mediterranean spirit and way of life: many bars and restaurants scattered along the streets of Zadar are ideal to feel the town pulse, and after one sees the old monuments, the modern ones are also worth paying a visit: unique Sea organ and Greeting to the sun that keep impressing both tourists and local people. As Zadar is also a modern town, it offers great shopping opportunities at the malls with famous world brands but also at the small shops in the town center where local artists' products and original souvenirs can be bought. Town beaches and clean sea are an additional invitation to visit Zadar, because there one can enjoy both the town and the sea.
